The company was established in 2007 and operates as a social enterprise with its registered office and delivery premises in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. YaSiG became a charity in March 2010 No 1135306The vision is to:
“Develop a café culture for young people with provision for education, training and personal development within an enterprising environment”.
YaSiG Ltd. aims to create a high quality sustainable Youth Coffee Bar facility for young people aged 13-24 years old living in Gainsborough and surrounding areas underpinned by a range of sustainable social enterprises. The Youth Coffee Bar will provide young people with:
• A safe place to meet and socialise
• Facilities and activities to engage their interests
• Staff to inspire their imaginations
• Access to information, advice and guidance
YaSiG Ltd. was formed by a multi-agency partnership group to provide a positive response to the findings from a large-scale consultation exercise involving over 400 young people living in Gainsborough. The key findings clearly indicated the underlying reasons for some young people being involved in anti-social behaviour and petty crime. These included a lack of job opportunities, diversionary activities and social facilities for young people in the town.
YaSiG Ltd. has a multi-agency Board consisting of representatives from the following organisations:
Community and Voluntary Sector
Lincolnshire County Council Children’s Services
Lincolnshire Police
West Lindsey District Council
All individuals and agencies work in partnership to achieve shared local, regional and national objectives in relation to the development and ‘well-being’ of young people in Gainsborough and West Lindsey. The Board is constantly evolving to best meet the needs of young people living in the Gainsborough area.
The Board and YaSiG Ltd. employees are supported by a range of Working groups including Alternative Education, Business Planning, Community and Young People Involvement, Finance and Staffing.
A number of projects are now in place to enhance provision for young people in Gainsborough. Alternative Education programmes have been successfully delivered since 2007. The Motor Ex Workshop opened in November 2009 and the purpose-built Youth Coffee Bar with an alternative education suite was completed in October 2010. With appropriate support, young people aged 13-24 will have key roles in the management and organisation of activities in the Youth Coffee Bar and will benefit from enhanced provision.
